Notice: Technical problems with Internet Explorer 9

Internet Explorer 9 is not currently working correctly with our Campus Map. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and are working to identify and resolve the problem. The Campus Map is supported on Firefox 3 or above, Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8, Safari, and Chrome.

 


Finding your Location

There are many ways to search the map to find your location. To begin, enter a building name, building code, street address, or department name into the search box. Results will appear below as you type, and even a portion of a name or address may bring up your desired result. Move your cursor to the closest match and click to select. You can also move up and down through the results using the up/down arrow keys, and click [Enter] to select.

  • Multiple search results: More than one building may match the result you select. If so, a window with multiple results will pop up. Just click on the closest match.
  • To browse by category: Click the arrow button next to the desired category to open the list. Scroll up or down the list, and click to select. Click the arrow button again to close.

Map Controls

To reposition the map within the map display frame you can:

  • Drag the map display in any direction while holding down the left mouse button.
  • Click the arrow buttons above the slider bar to move the map north, south, east or west.
  • Press the keyboard arrow keys to move the map north, south, east or west.

To zoom in or out on the map you can:

  • Use the keyboard plus key to zoom in a level.
  • Use the keyboard minus key to zoom out a level.
  • Double-click to zoom in a level.
  • Spin the mouse scroll-wheel forward to zoom in.
  • Spin the mouse scroll-wheel backward to zoom out.
  • Use the Slider Bar to zoom in or out at a fixed scale.
  • Press [Shift] and drag the mouse to select an area to zoom in.
  • Press [Shift] + [CTRL] and drag the mouse to select an area to zoom out.

 

Map Features

Print: To print a map page, click the Print button in the upper right corner, or click the print icon in any building popup window. You can continue to size or position the map using the mouse, plus, minus, arrow keys. Once the map is sized and positioned, click on the print icon or use your browser's print function.

Send: You can email the link for a specific building or venue by clicking on the Send button from any map page. A new email message will open using your default email client with a link to that map page in the body of the message. Compose and send the email as usual.

Link: You can create a static link to a specific building or venue by clicking the Link button. Your browser address bar will be updated with the specific URL for that building result, zoom level and position.

Refresh: You can return the map display to default settings by clicking the Refresh button. Note: If the above Link function has been enabled, Refresh will only refresh that specific map result page.

Building information: When you select a building, a window will pop up showing the address, building number, building code, related departments, and a thumbnail image of the building if available. You can print the map page by clicking the print icon in the upper right corner. To close the information window, click the "x" in the upper right corner.

Map Legend: To see explanations of the different symbols used on the map layers you can expand the Map Legend by clicking the arrow button. Click the arrow button again to close the Map Legend.

Find Parking

  • Visitor Parking: check this box to see visitor lots and meters.
  • U Permit: check this box to see U permit Student parking lots.
  • A Permit: check this box to see A permit Faculty/Staff parking lots.
  • E Permit: check this box to see E permit Economy parking lots.
  • M Permit: check this box to see M permit Motorcycle parking areas.
  • Accessible Parking: check this box to see accessible parking options.
  • Parking Meter: check this box to see parking meter areas.

Displaying Layers

  • Accessible Entrances: check this box to show information about accessible entrances, parking, and non-accessible stairways and walkways.
  • Construction: check this box to add information about construction zones and construction project impact areas.
  • Trax/Shuttle Stops: check this box to see UTA Trax stations and Shuttle stops on campus.
  • Satellite View: check this box to switch to an aerial satellite view of campus. Un-check the box to return to standard map view.

Printable maps and Resources

  • Printable PDF maps: provides maps of Main Campus, Fort Douglas, University Health Care and Research Park in downloadable PDF format.
  • Live Campus Shuttle Map: provides current locations of campus shuttle buses. The service is active from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
  • Trax/Bus Schedules: links to the Utah Transit Authority website Schedules and Maps section. UTA busses, light-rail and commuter rail serve the Wasatch Front, including the University of Utah campus.
  • Construction Impacts: links to an interactive map of campus construction zones.

System Requirements

The campus map is optimized for use with Firefox 3.5 or higher and Internet Explorer 7 or higher. Map functionality and performance may be limited with other browsers. The campus map is not supported for use with Internet Explorer 6 or earlier, or Firefox 2 or earlier.
